She is one of the most powerful women in Australian fashion - so what does the $445 million powerbroker have in store for Melbourne?
The inaugural MPavilion was unveiled in Melbourne's Queen Victoria Gardens yesterday.
MPavilion is a unique architecture commission and design event for Melbourne, initiated by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation with support from City of Melbourne and the Victorian State Government.
Each year for the next four years, an outstanding architect will be commissioned to design a temporary pavilion for the Queen Victoria Gardens, in the centre of the Southbank Arts Precinct.
The first MPavilion commission was awarded to internationally acclaimed architect Sean Godsell.
Godsell has designed a contemporary pavilion will house a range of activations over a four-month period – all offered free to the public.
The MPavilion public program includes 20 talks, 28 workshops, 18 music events, 14 film screenings, seven walking and bike tours, four art interventions and two dance performances.
Godsell recently won the International Architecture Award of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum and the National Award for Public Architecture at the AIA Awards 2014 for his design of Melbourne’s RMIT Design Hub.
Milgrom said the project will reinforce Melbourne's position as a design leader.
"I was inspired by London’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion and have sought to take this idea further by adding a robust cultural program that celebrates design, architecture and creativity in our city."
Milgrom heads up Sussan Group, which turned over $445 million in the 2013 financial year and includes brands such as Sussan, Sportsgirl and Suzanne Grae.
