Before they debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week today, ragtrader.com.au delivers an exclusive highlight of what the New Generation designers have in store.
Desert Designs
Part of the New Generation showcase of designers, Desert Designs 2013/14 summer collection is a hot-blooded offer of bright supernatural colours, deep neutrals and earthy tones. 'Increase the Acid' signals the contemporary revival of the label, with a range that displays its unique desert aesthetic via digital prints. Designs reflect artwork from highly acclaimed indigenous artist Jimmy Pike, with dynamic prints at the centre of a collection without further embellishments. Garment styles are created to accompany each other throughout the 50-piece strong collection as the label comes into its own.
Faddoul
Inspired by the spirit of Frida Kahlo, the 'Rivera' collection from New Generation label Faddoul exudes an ambience which is innocent and sensual with a modern edge. The collection features a restrained colour palette of baby blue, purple and pink pastels, with stand-out digital prints delivered in different colour ways and forms. Ruffles are a key feature throughout the 12-looks set to hit the runway, and used to accentuate the feminine silhouettes of dresses and skirts in the line. Designer Jessica Faddoul describes the Fashion Week debut range as “wearable, fresh and enigmatic”.
Jaime Ashkar
New Generation designer Jaime Ashkar has chosen the contrast of femininity and masculinity as the overall theme for her debut collection, driven by the need to “strip everything back and focus on the construction, shapes and fabrics”. 'Reflection 2014' materializes this concept, with pieces that are athletic, clean, minimal with a quiet sophistication. Ashkar has also developed a 'liquid metal' print for the line, which translates the concept of merging femininity and masculinity together, through angular and fluid lines. Sporty cuts, and boxy shapes paired with controlled draping in a soft colour palette define the 30-piece collection which is heavily focused on separates. Key fabrics include bonded jersey and silks, most of which are from European mills with a color palette that is overall monochromatic, offset by soft nude tones with a pop of pink and hints of aqua in the prints.
