Finnish fashion and lifestyle house Marimekko has brought its global floral-themed touring pop-up exhibition to Sydney ahead of the Christmas season.
The exhibit has been roaming the Asia Pacific region since first appearing in Osaka, Japan in March. Sydney will be its final stop of the year.
The pop-up will feature at the Westfield Sydney Shopping Centre, presented in partnership with local retailer Sorry Thanks I Love You.
Spanning 150 square metres within the Sorry Thanks I Love You café space on level one at Westfield Sydney, the Field of Flowers pop-up features 25 entirely new floral prints by five international designers: Erja Hirvi, Masaru Suzuki, Aino-Maija Metsola, Antti Kekki and Eija Vehviläinen.
The abstract floral artworks are displayed through ceiling-height fabric installations and fabric-covered displays.
These new artworks continue to build Marimekko's print archive, which to date consists of over 3,500 unique prints.
“We are excited for the enthusiasm that our community has shown for the Field of Flowers exhibition and thrilled for it to land in Sydney,” Marimekko creative director Rebekka Bay said. “Collaborating with artists to create bold designs on textile canvases continues to lie at the heart of our design DNA.
“Working on a series of new floral prints with five talented artists is a true testament to our continuous work to build the future of our artistic legacy.”
Marimekko has around 170 stores globally, which include one in Sydney and another in Melbourne.
