Australian menswear brand M.J. Bale is set to open its first-ever store in the United Kingdom later this year, which will also be the brand’s first international store outside Australia.
The flagship store will be located at 48-50 Jermyn Street, St James's, London SW1, covering 2,636 square feet (~245sqm) and taking on a prominent corner position within the newly developed 30 Duke Street St James building.
Designed by Sydney-based Edge Design Studio, the store includes six-metre floor-to-ceiling heights and features reclaimed timber flooring, limestone tiles, and handcrafted hardware.
The Jermyn Street flagship will carry M.J. Bale's full tailoring, knitwear, outerwear and casualwear collections. Hero pieces at launch include Kingston Made in Japan single-source wool tailoring, flannel suiting, Made in Italy jackets, shirts, knitwear and denim, as well as Made in Scotland sweaters, and a ski range developed in partnership with JAAM Italia using wool grown at Lake Hāwea Station in New Zealand's Southern Alps.
"To open on Jermyn Street is a significant milestone for M.J. Bale - and one we don't take lightly,” Jensen said. “This street has upheld the highest standards in menswear for over three centuries.
“We come here with a provenance story that is distinctly Australian and a deep commitment to natural fibres, regenerative farming and world-class craft. Our hope is that the Jermyn Street customer will find something genuinely worthwhile in what we have built."
M.J. Bale was founded in Sydney in 2009 by Matt Jensen. The brand operates 80-plus stores across Australia, works with natural fibres traceable to 29 named farms across Australia and New Zealand, and operates a closed-loop store-to-farm rebate system that has returned over $600,000 directly to farm conservation programmes.
