Sydney will welcome a luxury fashion logistics service next year, as part of an Asia Pacific rollout spurred by weakening demand in Europe and the US.

Global transport provider Logwin launched phase one of its 'Red Carpet Logistics' service last month, opening a warehouse dedicated to high-end fashion in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

This opening will be followed by warehouse upgrades in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney and Jakarta, with storage areas ranging from 9,000 m² to 18,000 m².

The network will be expanded to include Indonesia, India and additional locations in China, as well as plans to extend into Thailand and Vietnam.

Logwin Red Carpet Logistics executive Marc Wijnen said the concept is aimed at servicing growing demand for premium European brands in Asia, as well as premium Asian brands intended for export to Europe, Australia and the US.

"It has been a challenging year for everyone in the logistics sector as the economic downturn has resulted in reduced demand in key markets such as Europe and the US," Wijnen said.

"There has been a restructuring of supply chains in the fashion industry as our customers are increasingly looking to Asia's consumer markets for growth."

PricewaterhouseCoopers predicts that demand for fashion and clothing will grow by 4.7 per cent in Asia this year, with China leading the way with an increase of 10.8 per cent.

Last week, luxury brand Louis Vuitton unveiled a three-storey flagship store in Sydney. The Sydney Louis Vuitton Maison is only the 13th in the world joining Paris, Tokyo, London and New York.
