Lorna Jane will head to Federal Court on May 3.

The activewear brand will battle legal proceedings launched by a physiotherapist over patent infrigement.

Bendigo-based physiotherapist Carolyn Taylor filed the patent in 2010, for a pair of leggings designed to improve core stability for women.

Taylor claimed Lorna Jane sells 68 similar garments, breaching the the patent licensed to manufacturers.

The leggings, which feature a supportive brace design, were inspired by her treatment of clients with lumbar pelvic issues.

Taylor claimed she only noticed the infringements in 2017, with a Federal Court claim filed last month.

Lorna Jane will defend the claims at an initial hearing on May 3.

The activewear brand will argue it has designed and manufacturerd compression activewear since 1989, when founder Lorna Jane Clarkson first produced garments for aerobics clients.

Lorna Jane launched its first store in 1990 in Brisbane.

Last year, the brand triumphed in a high-profile legal case spanning two years.
