President of Universal Society of Hinduism Rajan Zed has criticised the recent partnership between Sydney Airport and activewear brand Lorna Jane.
The partnership has launched Lorna Jane's 'Active Living Room' in the airport's T2 domestic terminal, copping criticism from Zed for charging passengers a $12 fee for a 45-minute yoga session.
Zed has urged the airport to reconsider the move as other major airports across the globe reportedly deliver yoga facilities for free.
The criticism extends to Zed's belief that the practice of yoga is “a living fossil” which all people should be able to share and benefit from at no cost.
Lorna Jane founder Lorna Jane Clarkson released a statement in November prior to the launch regarding its commitment to improving health and wellbeing of passengers.
“We are thrilled to partner with Sydney Airport and provide passengers with the opportunity to exercise, stretch and nourish with healthy food before boarding their flight and ultimately be healthier and happier.
“People are more mindful of their health than ever before so it makes sense to bring our Active Living Room concept to Sydney’s T2 Domestic Terminal and provide passengers with the opportunity to put their health first, even when travelling.”
The offer allows members of Lorna Jane's loyalty program to access the yoga sessions for free, with non-members being charged the fee in contention.
At this stage Lorna Jane has been unable to provide a reponse to the criticism.
