Lord Mayor Clover Moore has given her blessing to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA), as the resort collections kick off this week.

The City of Sydney has collaborated with the event to host a series of private suites for designers and buyers.

The suites will help Australian designers to connect with the industry and boost their growth potential within the Sydney, Australian and international marketplaces.

“This support will give dozens of established and emerging designers the opportunity to highlight their collections to the world,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“The suites will give designers an opportunity to secure increased buyer and media appointments during the event, helping designers increase exposure and sales as well as entry into new markets.

“We’re proud to host the world’s top fashion designers, influencers, media and buyers for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2017.”

Celebrating its 22nd year, MBFWA will feature more than 40 local designers showcasing their spring/summer 2017/18 collections to the world.

The event attracts more than 2,000 buyers, global media outlets and international guests to the city each year.

In 2016, the event was streamed live to over 20 countries, giving Sydney and Australian designers the opportunity to showcase their fashion on a global scale.

During MBFWA, Pitt Street Mall will also be transformed into a fashion hub with the MBFWA Live Site hosting giant screens streaming runway shows from May 15 to 18.

Supporting local fashion designers and business is part of The City of Sydney’s retail action plan, which aims to reinforce Sydney’s position as Australia’s premier retail destination.
