Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe has opened its first store in Melbourne, Australia.
Located in the T&G Building on Collins Street, the store stocks a full range of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, small leather goods, soft accessories, eyewear and jewellery.
Founded in 1846, Loewe is a subsidiary of global fashion company LVMH.
The brand operates two stores in Sydney, in Westfield Sydney and at Sydney International Airport. Loewe is also stocked in David Jones' Sydney flagship and through wholesale agreements with T Galleria in Sydney and Cairns.
The Melbourne store features a pastel pink exterior offset by interior shades of yellow, white and blue.
The interior houses handmade ceramics, brass and turned iron, contrasted by expansive glass windows and concrete floors.
It also features international artworks, including a sculpture by New Zealand artist Kate Newby called ‘Hold onto me as we go’ (2019).
Other creations include ’Pauline’s presence’ (2022), a large-scale densely coloured painting by Scottish artist Lorna Robertson, ‘Self-Portrait With David Ball’ (1947) by late Welsh photographer Angus McBean, and a small-scale piece titled ‘Syphilitic Rat’ (1970s) by American artist Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt.
Interior furniture includes seating designs by Dutch artist and architect Gerrit thomas Rietveld – the Utrecht Armchair (1935) and the Steltman chair (1963) – as well as wool carpets handmade in Spain that depict images by British textile and graphic artist John Allen.
A coffee table by Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt sits alongside Loewe-crafted martini tables.
