A local shopping precinct will soon facilitate the debut of an Academy Award nominated, Emmy Award winning costume designer in Australia.

Chadstone The Fashion Capital, a two-level shopping centre, is set to play host to 'New York City Style', the world premiere exhibition of Sex and the City costumes, from March 1 - 31 to celebrate the 'Fashion New Year'.

Curated by the show’s own Academy Award nominated, Emmy Award winning costume designer Patricia Field, the exhibition will showcase 20 iconic outfits.

Field, who also owns a boutique with her own clothing label, costume designed popular television series Sex and the City, also using pieces from designers such as Sonia Rykiel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

Field received an Emmy for Sex and the City for creating the wardrobes of the series' stars – Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda – and was awarded another Emmy for her work with Disney television feature Mother Goose Rock and Rhyme.

She was also named as part of Time Magazine’s '100 Most Influential Fashion Icons of All Time' in 2012, and won Best International Stylist at the Elle China Awards, a one time award for her body of work from the Council of Fashion Designers in America.

In addition, she has won the Albert Einstein award for Innovation, the Fashion Council’s accessory award, and the Fairchild Publication’s Footwear News award, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2011.

Patricia’s impressive projects include, television’s Crime Story, Wiseguy, Spin City, Hope and Faith, Six Degrees, Cashmere Mafia, Kath & Kim, and Ugly Betty. Her film credits comprise Miami Rhapsody, The Substitute, Dear Diary, The Devil Wears Prada, and Confessions of a Shopaholic.

In addition to the exhibition, Chadstone will also host Vogue Australia runway shows on the night of the exhibition launch on March 1 to showcase over 170 autumn/winter trends from Australian and international designers.
