The L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) has revealed award winning designer Mary Katrantzou as one of its star guests as it counts down to kick-off.
Katrantzou, who boasts over 250 stockists worldwide including Joyce, Colette, Selfridges, and Barneys, recently secured David Jones as an exclusive Australian stockist and will now contribute to the department store's showcase at LMFF.
Katrantzou will attend the Opening Event presented by David Jones and supported by Vogue Australia on March 19, where her collection will open the first and largest runway show of the week.
Her spring/summer 2013 range, inspired by postage stamps, obsolete banknotes, a world history ‘Tour de Force’, and luxurious textures, will debut alongside David Jones’ top Australian designers including Dion Lee, Lisa Ho, Ellery, Collette Dinnigan, and Rachel Gilbert.
David Jones' ambassador Samantha Harris has been confirmed to open the show with international models Montana Cox and Jessica Gomes in her new collection, also set to hit Australian shores shortly, exclusively stocked in David Jones.
Commenting on her collection, Katrantzou said she was motivated to experiment.
“I wanted to play with unique fabrications that created new textures and aesthetic qualities. For me the most important factor when designing is creating something new, something innovative and something that people will appreciate for its intelligent design aesthetic, as well as its function.
“It’s important to be in sync with your times and create something that is relevant but also can shape how people want to dress in the future,” she said.
Katrantzou will also speak as part of the LMFF Business Seminar presented by the State Government of Victoria, Westfield and supported by WISH Magazine on March 21.

LMFF will kick off on March 18, 2013 and will run until March 24, 2013.
