Adidas, Stella McCartney, Lacoste, Walmart and Uniqlo are among international retailers joining Cotton Australia's 'Australian Cotton Tour'.

The event will provide retailers with insights into how cotton is grown in Australia and the industry's sustainability credentials.

The Iconic, Sussan, Sportscraft and Country Road will join a local delegation of retailers attending the tour.

The formalities will run from May 2-5, starting with a cotton forum in Sydney before heading to farm, gin and research centre tours in the Narrabri region in northwest NSW.

The Australian Cotton Tour has been facilitated through the federal government’s agricultural trade and market access cooperation program. The program aims to increase trade diversification and expansion opportunities to access new markets for Australia’s agricultural commodities.

It is hoped the program will assist agriculture to reach its goal of generating $100 billion for the Australian economy annually. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences forecasts that Australian cotton will become the third most valuable export commodity after wheat and beef.
