Australian-born streetwear label Ksubi has teamed up with cult couture label Alice Hollywood for a capsule inspired by the early 2000s denim era.
Titled ‘Kusbi by Alice Hollywood’, the US-based fashion label’s founder Shane Gonzales helped create the 14-piece collection, which also channels his Southern California roots.
The collection includes Ksubi’s Black Wax, Ivory and Punk Eternity Blue washes, cut into oversized Oh G denim jackets and bootcut Toro jeans. There are also laser-cut leather appliqués in graphic patterns, secured with thick-gauge saddle stitching.
The denim capsule also includes metal lighter clips, originally seen in Alice Hollywood’s cult caps, alongside a range of boxy, oversized heavyweight tees in black and white, alongside a twin-zipper hoodie in a black vintage wash, both featuring exclusive ‘Ksubi by Alice Hollywood’ artwork.
The range is completed with a selection of caps reimagined in Ksubi’s washes. The caps are customised with seasonal artwork co-created by both brands.
Additional accessories including a bandana and leather belt. For both pieces, an exclusive customised U.S. flag print is featured, inspired by the artwork of the 1990s alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers for their cover of Suicide Is Painless.
The collection is finalised with co-branded detailing for each piece including a collaboration pocket flag, T-box logo and 4x4 embroidery branding.
“The aim of the collection was to bring the chaotic and in-your-face denim of the early 2000s back and Ksubi was the right partner to do this,” Gonzales said. “Known for being one of the first to show the world how to use denim to make a statement, their story is ours in spirit and together we made sure that each piece captured that over-the-top confidence that made fashion a statement back in those days.”
Ksubi CEO Craig King said he and the team have followed Gonzales’ work for years and had finally caught up during New York Fashion Week last year at his pop-up on the Lower East Side.
“We loved how Alice Hollywood was evolving and got excited about what a collab could bring,” King said. “One year later we have teamed up on Greene St to combine Shane’s unique aesthetic with Ksubi’s denim prowess to deliver a collaboration that merges our two worlds, clashes our subcultures and should excite our fan base.”
The collection is available from Tuesday, September 23 at Kusbi and Alice Hollywood online, and in Ksubi stores in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Melbourne, as well as exclusive partners ESSX and NUBIAN TOKYO.
