Swimwear label Kooey Australia has just wrapped a triple barrel assault on the US market, with its first ever solo show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami last night.
Kooey revealed 40 looks from its 2012 collection, dubbed Birds of a Feather, which was inspired by Australia's native birds and featured a range of brilliant-hued tankinis, monokinis, bikinis, sheer slips and full body options.
Kooey director and designer Nikki Silverthorne said this was part of a broader push into the US market, with the brand also showcasing its collection to buyers at SwimShow 2012 Miami and enlisting as official swimwear sponsor for the 2011 Miss Teen USA Pageant.
"This year will be our biggest year yet in terms of working within the US market," she said. "The 2011 'Swim Week' marked our third year at SwimShow, our second at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim with our first US solo show.
"Next week we are heading to New York for our first time at trade show Curve NY. We are really excited that each year our experience in the US keeps getting bigger."
Featuring a vibrant colour board of violet, ochre, citrus lime, orange and vivid blue, the Birds of a Feather collection was offset with black and metallic greys, pale pinks and olives. Custom-made prints included indigenous inspired dot patterns, swirls and feathers.
Kooey is also scheduled to show at Mercedes-Benz Sydney Fashion Festival next month.
