Australian low-price retailer Kmart has unveiled its new spring/summer range at a public activation at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on the Gold Coast.

The runway preview included 16 models wearing over 20 pieces, including shirts, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits and activewear.

Speaking with Ragtrader, Kmart Australia womenswear buyer Catherine Wringe said the styles will begin dropping across stores in August and September and include fabrics such as denim, BCI Cotton, viscose fibres via Ecovero Lenzing and linen.

“We've got linen suits in an array of colours,” Wringe said. “We know that the power suit is the outfit of the season, everyone's doing soft tailoring. So to be able to do it in linen is super exciting."

Alongside the linen suits are pants and blasers that both come in four options.

“There's a great ability to mix and match the colours across core staples in our range,” Wringe said. “So you can do the linen back with the pants, you could do it with our shorts, we've got some great little skirts.”

Wringe confirmed that some of the styles were developed through its 3D technology, which is currently used across womenswear with the company onboarding menswear this year.

“It's a whole new way of working for us,” Wringe said. “It just gives us the ability to see all the colours and fits before we then go to sampling and production. It cuts down heaps of sample sizes and allows us to make better choices up front, which is super great.

“And I think it's just the evolution of the future, right, you can make decisions faster based on your use of technology.”

The runway formed part of an outdoor activation at Pacific Fair that showcased Kmart's home range.
