Discount department store Kmart has consolidated its general merchandise distribution under one roof, removing the cost burden of three distribution centres across Victoria.
The retail chain, which sells clothing, footwear and homeware among many other products, has also enlisted logistic systems supplier Dematic to install one of the most advanced conveyor systems in Australia.
The new Melbourne hub, which enabled Kmart to combine its previous Hoppers Crossing, Laverton and Woodlands centres under the one roof, can now automatically sort up to 6,000 items per hour to individual orders for up to 88 stores concurrently – thanks to the new conveyor system
The strategic location of the new Goodman Interchange Industrial Estate to major arterial roads was a key consideration for Kmart when selecting the new centre.
