Kathmandu has used the celebration of its 100th store opening in Australasia to signal it will open up to 15 new stores in 2011/12.

The outdoorwear retailer will open its 100th store in Orange in regional New South Wales this week, bringing the total number of Kathmandu stores in Australia to 60. The company also has stores across New Zealand and the UK.

The company confirmed it was on track to open its goal of 15 new stores in the 2010/11 financial year, with Kathmandu managing director Peter Halkett adding there was potential for a similar number of store openings in the next financial year. New stores would be in areas in Australia where Kathmandu is unrepresented, he added.

In addition to the store opening in Orange, new Kathmandu stores are planned for Cairns (QLD), Southland (VIC) and Whakatane, Coastlands and Ashburton in New Zealand.

Kathmandu is a publicly listed retailer headquartered in Christchurch, New Zealand. The 24-year-old business produces outdoorwear for men and women as well as associated travel goods.
