Outdoor clothing chain Kathmandu has come under attack from animal welfare group PETA.

The attack centres around Kathmandu's 100% ethically sourced RDS certification.

PETA claims the brand could be using unethically sourced feathers due its ties with factories base in China.

"In 2012, PETA US released footage showing that workers rip live geese's feathers out – a painful process known as 'live plucking'.

"In the years that followed, companies faced a loss of confidence from consumers, so they came up with international certifications that they claimed would ensure 'responsible', 'non live-plucked' down.

"For example, even though Kathmandu sources its down from China – a country with virtually no animal-welfare laws – it says its products are certified by the 'Responsible Down Standard' (RDS).

"But PETA US and PETA Asia recently visited farms connected to RDS-certified companies, and they uncovered shocking cruelty that casts serious doubt on this certification."
