Jay Jays under fire
Youthwear retailer Jay Jays has come under fire by consumers for selling “porn t-shirts”.
The two t-shirts in contention feature prints of half naked women with graphics 'dirty' and 'woman' printed on top of the images.
Grassroots campaign organisation Collective Shout has launched a petition to see Jay Jays remove the shirts from its stores and has contacted the store directly.
While the business has promised to cease all future production of the t-shirts, Collective Shout is pressing for the immediate dismissal of all remaining stock from Jay Jays stores.
Collective Shout director of operates Coralie Alison has taken action posting a link to the petition on the brand's Facebook page along with a statement urging Jay Jays to take further action.
“In a letter to our Director of Operations the youth retailer clarified that while they have discontinued these designs and made changes internally in regards to purchasing print ranges they intend to continue to profit of the exploitation of women.”
Consumers are now submitting complaints to its Facebook page on the matter:
Jay Jays group general manager Linda Whitehead has responded directly to comments as well as Collective Shout.
"I run the Jay Jays business and I have just seen your comment.
"I myself am a mother of three children. I note your concern and I have just instructed the buying team to cancel orders for these prints."
Jay Jays parent company The Just Group has not issued a statement on the matter.
