Virtual reality shopping may soon become as popular as smartphone shopping, as a recent report has revealed 52% of Australian consumers see it as a viable competitor in the shopping experience space.
Research conducted by Worldpay highlighted that 76% of respondents say VR and AR technology has specialist uses in certain industries, such as design (83%).
A further 61% of respondents said these two technologies could completely shift the consumer experience in the near future.
However, while many respondents believed that the technology would certianly have an impact on the retail space, less than 1 in 5 surveyed thought that VR and AR could spell the death of brick-and-mortar stores.
A further 23% of those surveyed said that the ability to visualise a product or experience in VR/AR would make them more likely to impulse buy, with only 22% of respondents actually having used VR technology.
