Australian accessories brand Urban Originals has been awarded as the highly commended winner of the 'Small Business Award' at this year's NSW Export Awards.
Headed by the Export Council of Australia (ECA) and the NSW government, the awards aim to recognise companies contributing to the economy at state and national levels.
Urban Originals has been awarded due to its burgeoning export growth in the US.
Its current buyer portfolio in the region includes Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, FreePeople, Urban Outfitters, Macy's, Belk, Mahazine, Tuesday Morning, Nordstrom and other multi door stores and boutiques in the US.
ECA CEO Lisa McAuley believes its time for Australian brands and retailers to seize export opportunities to boost economic growth.
“NSW exporters have a long and positive future when it comes to trade.
“Given the recent signing of Free Trade Agreements (FTA’s) now is the time to focus on how we can help build on Australia’s trade capabilities and encourage more companies to look at the global opportunities that are opening up.
“We need to take advantage of the market opportunities created by the North Asian FTA’s and now the potential of the TPP Agreement and recognise the success of those clever companies that are really making waves overseas.”
Around 85 applicants entered for 12 industry specific categories and eight state-based awards.
