Cotton Australia has joined leaders of primary producer groups and headed to Canberra to promote Australian fibre to over 150 key politicians.
In union with The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) the organisation hosted the 'Australian Parliament Farmers Market' in a bid to engage politicians on the importance of supporting the local cotton industry.
Target Australia was also represented at the event by Cotton Australia by its head of menswear Victoria Smith and its menswear designer Luke Morrison.
It comes after the company recently launched collection made from 100% Australian cotton.
Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay has applauded Target Australia for its commitment to supporting local cotton farmers.
“Thanks to Target Australia, the Farmers Market event allowed us to place yet another real Aussie cotton clothing product directly into the hands of decision makers, which demonstrates the link between our growers and the final product.
“Cotton Australia thanks Target for its support at the event, and for promoting Australia's cotton industry through its clothing product lines.”
Kay believes the event will prompt Parliament to invest in opportunities with the local market and boost economic growth.
“Yesterday’s event in Canberra was a great opportunity for us to educate politicians, government staffers, the media and others about our contribution to the Australian economy.
“From field to fashion, Australian cotton growers work hard to produce the world’s best natural fibre.
“By participating in this event, Cotton Australia was able to engage with key decision makers and members of the media, who learned a all about cotton production, the growers who make it happen and how decisions in Canberra can influence their farm enterprises and the rural communities they live in and support."
