US brand Patagonia has hosted a symposium series – the Bsessions - to Australian industry leaders to generate discussion about cotton farming.

For 20 years the company has reportedly set out to transition into producing products made from 100 per cent organic cotton.

Guests at the event included delegates from TOMS, David Jones, Pacific Brands, Aje, Spell Design, Kit X, General Pants, MJ Bale, ByJohnny, FBI Fashion College, Apparel Group, Haryono Setiadi and TopShop.

Patagonia director of environmental strategy Jill Dumain said that the aim of the evening was to raise awareness of the devastating environmental impacts of conventional cotton, share lessons learned and foster change on a greater scale.

Dumain believes that widespread change is viable if leaders “use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.”
