The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) Retail Institute has teamed with Small Business Victoria to run a series of free workshops for retailers in the lead-up to Christmas.

The workshops will run until November and are designed to assist retailers through the festive season, with each session to provide preparation and tips on customer service, multi-channel retailing, finances and staffing.

Specific topics include: Consumer engagement, connecting with the connected customer, creating financial control in your retail business, people and performance, and customer experience. Each workshop covers three topics with a one hour duration per topic, of which retailers can opt to attend one, two or all three.

ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman said the workshops would help retailers polish their business strategy and plan to make the most of the Christmas period, following poor trade over the last 18 months.

“As savvy business owners, retailers look to consolidate their knowledge and update their skills at any opportunity in order to deliver the best customer experience,” he said.

“The approaching Christmas trading period means there is no better time to take some time out and think about how the business will have a successful Christmas, especially given retailers sometimes make up to 40 percent of their annual sales over this time.”
