Aje has launched its summer 21 collection, Modernist, inspired by French architect Charlotte Perriand.

Exploring the modernism movement for the collection, Aje co-founders Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris were drawn to Perriand's work, which was celebrated for breaking down conventions with creations such as open plan living and innovative material usage.

"Facing her own set of challenges as a young female in a male dominated industry, Perriand is regarded as one of the most influential and enduring figures of the time," Aje said in a statement.

"Her work, a celebration of simplicity and unadorned elegance," the business said.

Drawing inspiration from Perriand's work, the Modernist collection is built on primary colours, red, yellow and blue, while geometric shapes and watercolour prints are peppered throughout.

"A stripped back aesthetic and intentional vision, key signatures of Perriand’s work, are found in soft yet structural looks that focus on ornate pleating and relaxed tailoring whilst Aje’s signature silhouettes are reimagined and reinterpreted with a nod to minimalistic tendencies," Aje added.

The collection spans dresses, tops, skirts, shirts, camis, pants, tees, tanks and jackets.

As part of an ongoing collaboration, Aje commissioned emerging Australian artist and ceramist Chanel Tobler to interpret Perriand’s Nuage Cabinet book-shelf for the lookbook.

The Aje Modernist collection launched today, February 04.
