Melbourne is set to transform into a shopping hub.

The city's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has announced The Melbourne Edit – Shop the CBD as a full day of retail offerings for consumers across key locations including Melbourne Central, Emporium Melbourne, QV Melbourne, The Strand Melbourne, Melbourne's GPO, David Jones and Myer.

The event will include extended trading hours with stores open until 10pm.

Special offers will also apply across the different precincts for customers, including prize giveaways at Emporium and free parking from 5pm with any purchase over $1 at QV Melbourne.

The Strand and GPO are set to be the fashion hotspots, revealing that a number of retailers will run exclusive sales for the event.

Doyle believes it's an opportunity to celebrate the city's booming retail industry.

“In the past year we’ve seen our CBD retailers thinking outside the box and uniting to improve their customer offer with extended opening hours and joint campaigns.

“The Melbourne Edit event is another example of this collaboration which reinforces why we are the shopping and fashion capital of Australia.

“This will be a great day for city workers shopping on their lunch break or after work, as well as people who can travel into the CBD in the evening given all retailers will be open until 10pm.”

The Melbourne Edit – Shop the CBD will take place this Wednesday 20th May, with events and retail offers set to be announced on Tuesday.
