Outdoor apparel retailer Kathmandu has reported that it expects to post a profit of $9.9 million NZD ($9.5 million AUD) for the first half of the 2017 financial year.

This is an increase from the previous first half of the 2016 financial year, when the company posted a $9.4 million NZD ($9 million AUD) profit.

Australian sales rose by 6% to $121 million AUD, while New Zealand sales grew 0.9% to $68.8 million NZD.

The brands same store sales also rose 3.4 per cent.

Kathmandu CEO Xavier Simonet said the company was happy with the growth, noting the role same store sales growth played, despite looming margin pressure from foriegn currency.

“Despite gross margin pressure in the first half from foreign currency, we were able to grow our earnings through healthy same store sales growth in our largest market, rigorous cost control and working capital efficiency.”

Kathmandu will release the full result for the half year on March 21.
