Melbourne-based social enterprise HoMie has upcycled Disney materials for a limited-edition collection that marks International Friendship Day on July 30.
The range comprises 100 unique garments and marks the first time in Australia that another apparel label has upcycled Disney materials.
It is the second collaboration between the two entities, with 100% of profits going toward’s HoMie’s mission of supporting young people affected by homelessness or hardship.
Each item in the offering was handcrafted at HoMie’s Melbourne studio, splicing together pre-loved items and excess stock from both brands. The genderless collection includes styles such as patchwork hoodies and matching tee sets, with inclusions of Disney characters Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck.
The new range was overseen by HoMie’s subset Reborn by HoMie, which transforms waste materials into one-off pieces. To date, Reborn has upcycled 938kg of waste materials into 2,517 one-off garments.
"We’re stoked to join forces with Disney once again and release our first upcycled collaboration collection on International Friendship Day,” HoMie co-founder and creative director Marcus Crook said. “The response from our first HoMie and Friends range in 2021 was incredible and we can’t wait to share this new drop with the HoMie community and Disney fans.”
Crook said the range was handmade by one of the label’s alumni. Every year, HoMie undertakes its own accredited retail training and education paid internship for young people (aged 16 to 25 years) affect by homelessness or hardship.
“[The range] embodies our key values of creativity, sustainability, and social impact, and celebrates the power of authentic connections, like our brand friendship with Disney,” Crook said. “By rocking a tee or a hoodie, wearers can make a tangible difference to their community.”
The Reborn by HoMie x Disney collection will be available via homie.com.au from 9am, Sunday, July 30 and in HoMie’s Melbourne store from 10am the next day.
