Melbourne-based social enterprise HoMie and Melbourne manufacturer ABMT Textiles have launched their first upcycled range.
The capsule collection, produced by HoMie’s sub-label Reborn at ABMT, was showcased at Melbourne Fashion Week’s Underground Runway, presented by Collarts. It includes repurposed samples, returns, and deadstock.
It is the fist major move by both companies since announcing their collaboration with Ragtrader in early September.
HoMie co-founder and creative director Marcus Crook said the aim of this partnership with ABMT is to scale an upcycling arm that can produce 1,000 garments per week.
According to Crook, the plan is to transform ABMT’s Sunshine facility in Melbourne’s west with the new model. This includes bringing other fashion brands on board as the facility grows.
"It's great to give brands the opportunity to consider reusing existing garments,” Crook said. “Reborn and ABMT together can show how creativity and sustainability go hand in hand to create something unique and desirable.”
The collection is now available in-store and online, with all profits going towards HoMie’s mission of helping young people affected by homelessness or hardship.
