Hobart will host its first ever statewide fashion event in late September 2022.
The inaugural Tasmanian Fashion Festival (TFF) will promote the state’s “ever-growing” fashion industry, supporting emerging and established designers, retailers, creatives and brands.
The TFF will be held across two days, starting with an opening cocktail party and runway preview on Friday, September 30 at the Henry Jones Art Hotel.
Then, on Saturday, Wrest Point Hotel and Casino will host the all-day fashion fair, bringing local design, shopping experiences, networking opportunities, and live entertainment.
This includes workshops around styling for all bodies, fashion design illustration, menswear styling and sustainable textiles in Tasmania, as well as local exhibitors.
There will also be runway shows where anyone can enter their designs to be showcased in front of industry professionals. Guest judge Katie Parrott (pictured #2), who is the TFF ambassador and Hobart-based plus-size fashion influencer and model, will witness the runway shows.
Tickets for both events are available now at tasmanianfashionfestival.com.au
“Through an annual fashion festival, the TFF is endeavouring to create opportunities, growth, and education to those within the fashion and retail sector is Tasmania, which will ultimately benefit the entire state,” TFF President Tanya Ellis said.
The inaugural festival will take place in Hobart this year, however event organisers intend to annually host it in a different part of the state each year to boost its inclusivity.
The festival will provide educational opportunities around the importance of sustainability, diversity, inclusion, and transparency, and aims to create a supportive Tasmanian fashion community.
The launch of this new fashion festival comes as Adelaide, too, announces its first ever state-wide fashion event.
In October, ADL Fashion Week (AFW) will launch for the first time across the city of Adelaide, headlined by R.M.Williams and other South Australian-born designers and retailers.
Hosted by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) and held from October 6-9 2022, AFW will feature a curated program of fashion events that will support SA’s $218m fashion economy.
