Tasmanian textile business Uniform City, today helped officially launch the state's first custom garment decoration plant in Hobart.
The celebration was coordinated in conjunction with the Minister for Economic Development & Infrastructure David O’Byrne, and Senator for Tasmania Carol Brown.
The new equipment was acquired with the support of the Federal Government through the AusIndustry Textile, Clothing and Footwear Small Business Grant Program and direct investment from Uniform City.
The investment will allow short print runs and custom design garment decoration work usually sent to mainland Australia or China to be produced locally.
In addition to the opening of the new custom garment decoration plant, Uniform City today also unveiled an innovative, online self-service portal.
The portal, UC Leavers, is the first of its kind and has been designed especially for school students to enable them to custom design clothing for graduations and events.
Students can now design their own custom leavers top or graduation jersey in three steps with the ability to also share and collaborate on the design through social networking platforms.
Commenting at the opening ceremony today, GJS Machinery director Greg Stone said the investment by Uniform City would be beneficial to clothing production, not just in Tasmania, but Australia-wide.
“It is great to see a local business like Uniform City capitalising on the benefits that digital printing technology can deliver, both to further its position locally, but also demonstrate that high-quality print work can be done onshore which helps to secure Australian jobs.
Uniform City was launched 25 years ago and both manufactures clothing and wholesales.
