H&M has launched global initiative 'World Recycle Week' in a bid to collect 1,000 tonnes of used garments across its 3,600 stores worldwide.

H&M Australia has set up garment collection points across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

The company has enlisted bicyclists to be stationed at the points over the five day period to encourage consumers to donate unwanted clothing and faciliate collection.

As part of the scheme, customers can also access drop off points at H&M stores across the country.

Daily pick up locations in Australia will be announced via its social media channels.

H&M launched its 'Garment Collecting' initiative in 2013 and has reportedly received 25,000 tonnes of clothing since then.

Customers who donate to the cause will also receive vouchers to use at H&M in return for participation.

H&M has enlisted artist and singer M.I.A to front the global campaign.

M.I.A will also release a new music video in line with the initiative.
