H&M has given an exclusive preview of its first collection down under.

The H&M Australia Showroom was launched in Sydney yesterday, with journalists and bloggers given first access to the debut range.

View the showroom and collection here.

The showroom included a selection of pieces from the international and Australian Exclusive collections.

Key items include sheer maxi dresses, printed t-shirts, faux fur gillets and vests, leather and embellished shorts and skirts, and poet-sleeve blouses.

Heavier garments nclude leather jackets and suede pants, fringed dresses and over-the-knee suede boots.

Accessories span embroidered and embellished handbags and satchels, silver statement jewellery, fedora hats and rock 'n' roll belts.

Menswear is made up of heavier pieces, such as denim jackets, button-up shirts, embellished sweaters and leather jackets.

The Australian Exclusive range will be available exclusively at the H&M Melbourne GPO store.

H&M confirmed pricing will be in line with the Northern Hemisphere.

Jackets will retail from approximately $69.95 to $89.95, with select t-shirts at a lower price-point of $12.95 and leather and suede items at the higher end of the scale.

A hand-sewn, dark burgundy fringed jacket is one of the most expensive pieces in the collection, set to retail for approximately $269.

H&M Melbourne store is likely to open in March or April next year, with an e-commerce facility "on the cards".

The flagship store will differ from the global retail blueprint, with a more "curated and categorised" aesthetic.

It is understood a Sydney store in the near future is dependant on location.
