New Zealand-based retailer Hallenstein Glasson Holdings has boosted its business potential with a high profile hire from local powerhouse The Just Group.

Hallenstein Glasson Holdings, responsible for clothing brands, Glassons, Hallensteins, and Storm, has appointed former Just Group director Glenys Shearer to its board of directors as an independent non-executive director.

Commenting on the hire, chairman of directors Warren Bell said the board welcomes Shearer to the fold, with her business acumen set to spur the company forward as it expands.

“We are particularly pleased to have Glenys join the board. She has a very deep understanding of the retail fashion market in both Australia and New Zealand and is well placed to make a very positive contribution. Her deep understanding of the Australian market will be of particular benefit as we continue to pursue growth in that market,” he said.

Glenys has over 30 years of retail experience through department stores and speciality stores, and has spent 28 years with The Just Group, managing several of its brands in both Australia and New Zealand.

From 1999 to 2007 she held the position of commercial director responsible for the retail operations of six brands, leasing and store development.

She also established the Just Jeans business in New Zealand – based in Auckland from 1990 to 1993.

During the three years, 42 Just Jeans stores were opened, and the business as a whole has grown from 100 Just Jeans stores to 1000 stores across seven brands and three countries during her entire time with the company.

After returning to Australia she continued to be responsible for the Just Group New Zealand business.

As reported exclusively in Ragtrader [October 2012], Hallenstein Glasson Holdings has previously expressed its interest in Australian retail, and has revealed plans to launch its label Storm this year citing a “huge potential for growth” in the market.
