When it comes to fashion, the boys have finally trumped the girls.

The latest Roy Morgan readership figures signal a sign of optimism for men's print publishing, with GQ surging 50.7 per cent.

In stark contrast to the latest circulation figures, the year to March 2013 was largely positive for magazines with 67 titles recording increases compared to 63 seeing declines.

However, women's fashion publishing took significant hits with Madison falling 30.9 per cent, Shop Til You Drop -27.5 per cent,  Marie Claire -four per cent, Vogue -5.8 per cent and Harper's Bazaar -9.9 per cent.

Young women's lifestyle magazines Cleo and Cosmopololitan both dropped by 18 per cent.

InStyle and Frankie recorded increases however, by 2.5 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively.

The magazine with the highest number of readers was Woman's Day, with 1.89 million readers, overtaking Women's Weekly which had 1.87 million.

While Women's Weekly remains one of the strongest magazines in terms of overall readership, it was actually one of the weakest performers in terms of percentage decline, dropping 20.2 per cent.
