BREAKING NEWS: Josh Goot has followed Dion Lee in pulling out of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA), despite securing a place on the official 2012 schedule.

Goot, who was locked in to take the stage at MBFWA on Friday May 4 according to the official schedule, announced today that he will not be showing at the event this year, and cited a commitment to his label's “most extensive and commercially successful spring/summer collection to date” as the reason for the abrupt change of plan.

It is understood Lee pulled out for similar reasons this morning.

In a statement released to media today, Goot added that the decision reflects “commitment to the design and development process, combined with the challenging timing of MBFWA on the fashion calendar”.

“This is the right decision for the Josh Goot brand, business and team. We’ve had an amazing response to spring/summer 2012, and I think it’s important that we consolidate our position, rather than rush into a new collection to show at MBFWA. The entire studio and I want to focus on the new resort collection without the distraction of a show,” Goot said.

“I believe strongly in Australian Fashion Week as an important initiative that strengthens our domestic fashion story. I hope to participate in the event in the years to come.”

However, despite his absence at MBFWA next month, Goot has confirmed he will present a resort collection in June to coincide with the international schedule.
