Australian fashion retailer General Pants is fielding a winding-up order from a supplier, according to a notice on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) website.

The ASIC notice confirms UCC Australia lodged a winding-up application on July 17 to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

UCC is an importer, distributor and wholesaler of FMCG, predominantly electrical and food, according to its website. The supplier distributes to major retailers across Australia, including Myer, Big W, Kmart, Woolworths and Amazon.

A hearing is listed for August 20.

This comes months after Surfstitch, then-sister business under Alquemie Group, was served a similar order by Nike Australia. Court documents claimed Nike Australia Pty Ltd was owed $237,760.38.

A few weeks prior, the online surf business was sold off alongside its sister apparel brand Ginger & Smart, in a deal that initially commenced with talks in September 2024. The new owner is Best Markets.

Surfstitch was then placed into administration following Nike’s court order, with a deed of company arrangement (DOCA) being accepted by creditors.

General Pants’ winding-up challenge follows media speculation around the retailer’s health.
