Controversial womenswear retailer Gasp is hoping to make headlines for all the right reasons.

The Melbourne-based company, which has six stores in its home city and one in Sydney, has this week revamped its website and upped its offering.

Thigh-high splits, gold bustiers and jewelled plunging necklines all form part of an exclusive custom-made range at Gasp's new-look e-store.

To coincide with the new site Gasp has introduced a custom-made couture section.

Shoppers can choose from 17 colourful dresses, designed by prom specialist Sherri Hill.

Each dress is custom-made to the buyer’s specification and the collection is aimed at the 'discerning customer for occasions when off-the-rack just wont cut it'.

Price points range from $1,800 to $7,400 and once customers place their order, a Gasp staff member will contact them to take specific measurements.

Gasp general manager, Eddie Yilmaz, said the group is expecting the couture range to be a 'big hit'.

“There is just something inexplicable that comes with wearing a made-to-measure gown,” Yilmaz said. “We’ve all had those very special occasions which demand something extraordinarily special, and we feel that our bespoke offerings will provide its would-be owners with an aura of confidence and beauty, which simply cannot be achieved from buying off-the-rack.”

Once measurements are received the dress is delivered in eight to10 weeks..

Other online products include items from the Gasp brand itself, such as jeans and dresses and separate collections from designer brands such as La Femme, Jovani, Terani Couture and Tarvydas.

Gasp has taken a new direction with its website by making it more user friendly, adding a size guide and customers can now shop by category or designer.

The brand made national and international headlines last year, following its extraordinary response to a customer service complaint.
