Clothing and accessories retailer Gap has revealed its latest store addition in Melbourne is part of a larger expansion plan for Australia.

The US-based brand, which is operated by Brand Republic in Australia, currently has two stand-alone stores in the country at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Victoria and Westfield Sydney.

However, the brand recently announced plans to boost its Australian retail network via a third store in the Melbourne Central complex in Victoria, which is due to open on December 10.

The Gap Melbourne Central store will launch with the label's summer 2011 collection, featuring lightweight summer denim and soft, relaxed suiting as well as basics and fashion pieces in bright, bold colours and prints.

The Melbourne Central outlet will mark the third store opening in 12 months for the brand, and Busby Holdings group marketing manager Yc Eu has confirmed that the group is keen for further expansion.

“The launch of Gap in Australia has been very successful and over the past 12 months Australian shoppers have demonstrated their love for the brand. Thus Gap is eager to open more locations where the appropriate space is available,” she said.

“Fortunately this space became available at Melbourne Central and we are thrilled to be able to offer the Gap experience to Melbourne CBD shoppers.”

Busby Holdings CEO Andrew Bousie added that Gap will be working to cement its position in the Australian market as it has done in other regions.

“We continue to pursue new opportunities to expand in the Australian market and growing our market dominance Gap internationally has enjoyed for over 42 years,” he said.

Brand Republic Pty Ltd is part of Busby Holdings Australia Pty Ltd, which operates both a retail and wholesale distribution business specialising in branded accessories and apparel. Established in 2000, Busby Holdings Australia through its subsidiary Busbrand Pty Ltd, represents several international brands including Gap, Guess, Aldo Shoes & Accessories, and Tumi.
