Indie women’s title Frankie has dominated the 2012 Australian Magazine Awards (AMAs), taking out Magazine of the Year as well as the women's fashion category.

The bi-monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine, published by Queensland-based independent Morrison Media, blitzed finalists Vogue and Harper's Bazaar for the top fashion gong.

The brainchild of Australians Louise Bannister and Lara Bourke, Frankie covers design, fashion, art, travel, music and craft.

The win comes on the back of substantial year-on-year results recorded by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Frankie sold 58,631 copies for the six months to June 2012, a 4.03 per cent increase on the prior corresponding period.

The title's readership surge is even more substantial, with Roy Morgan figures recording an increase of 35.47 per cent year-on-year growth for the three months to June 2012.

Nielsen AdEx figures recorded a substantial spike in its advertising pages, despite a particularly challenging environment, rising to 228 from the previous year’s 180 – a 27 per cent increase.

Vogue Fashion's Night Out claimed magazine event of the year.
