Local fast fashion giant Forever New has invested in a life-changing initiative.
The brand, which currently operates over 250 stores in 11 countries globally, has inked a partnership with RMIT University to mentor young design talent.
The inaugural RMIT Forever New Scholarship in 2014 sees the launch of an innovative new scholarship program which aims to reward and encourage design students to pursue a career in fashion retail.
The concept is the brainchild of Forever New founder Amanda Goenka.
Commenting on the fruition of her “dream”, Goenka said the company is delighted to be able to support and encourage the new generation of fashion talent.
“This scholarship is the realisation of a dream, and we are thrilled to collaborate with RMIT, a leading university in this field of study”, Goenka said.
“The fashion business in Australia is more competitive than ever before, and we
recognise that young aspiring designers in our local community need industry mentoring and more opportunities. RMIT is known for producing world class fashion talent and we’re so excited to be supporting the next generation of designers.”
The Forever New Scholarship will be awarded annually to one RMIT Fashion
Student on completion of their third year, with their fourth and final year ahead.
The scholarship includes a $20,000 award towards tuition fees and design collection expenses and a coveted 12-month employment offer in the design team at Forever New upon graduating. Included in the employment offer is an invitation to join the Forever New Design and Buying team on an inspirational research trip to Paris.
The recipient of the scholarship will also be invited to design a capsule collection in collaboration with Forever New.
RMIT Deputy head of fashion & textiles and associate professor Karen Webster added that the tie-up with Forever New is a coup for the university.
“This is a significant and exciting opportunity for one of our students each year. The opportunity to have the financial support for their final year of study and then the money can’t buy opportunity of stepping straight into their first job with such a high profile company combined with a trip to Paris, will be a dream come true for the scholarship recipients.”
