Australian clothing brand Flo Dancewear is defending a court applocation brought forward by a Chinese clothing manufacturer.

According to a notice on the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) website, Changzhou Laosan Group Imo. & Exp. Pty. Ltd is calling for the winding up of the Australian dancewear business, with a hearing set in the Supreme Court of Victoria on October 15.

Flo Dancewear was launched in 2008 by Felicia Palanca and sells ballet essentials for kids and teens via an online website. The brand is also stocked in David Jones and on The Iconic.

In a statement to Ragtrader, Flo Dancewear noted it is robustly opposing the application on the basis that there is a genuine dispute between the parties.

“Flo Dancewear continues to operate its business successfully, as it has done for the past 18 years,” the company reported.

Changzhou Laosan is a fashion manufacturing facility based in China, and is presumably a supplier to Flo Dancewear.

This is the latest winding-up order to be tabled against a fashion business in Australia, with General Pants facing a similar winding-up order in July over an unpaid debt, which has since been rectified. A General Pants spokesperson told Ragtrader in July that it was a commercial matter between both parties that is now resolved.

Ragtrader has reached out to the lawyers representing Changzhou Laosan Group for further information.
