The fight is on to save Melbourne's last artisan pleater, Specialty Pleaters.
Founded in 1925, the supplier has been an iconic fixture in the industry and serviced clients such as Victorian Opera, Toni Maticevski and Le Louvre.
Now Penelope Gibbs, co-founder and designer of fashion label Hokum, has launched a fundraising bid.
"Over the years due to lack of industry awareness in this unique craft and the impact of offshore manufacturing, Specialty Pleaters has suffered from a decline in business," she said.
Gibbs has created an Indiegogo campaign offering a range of exclusive pieces, designed by Hokum and pleated by Specialty Pleaters.
Money raised from the campaign will towards new equipment and measures to educate and provide longevity for the craft, Gibbs said.
