Margaret Porritt has cancelled the closure of her Feathers brand, six months after announcing her retirement.
Porritt confirmed that her decision came after an overwhelming response from customers.
"I thought it was time to step back. My customers thought otherwise," said Porritt.
"Women kept coming into the store, writing to us, telling us what Feathers meant to them. At some point you have to listen. It's a lady's prerogative to change her mind."
When the brand announced its closure in January this year, Feathers had nine retail locations and a few concessions at David Jones. The brand also managed around 35 employees.
Today, the brand operates a sole store at Collins Place, and is preparing to open a new one in Brighton, at 35b Church Street, in September. The brand also manages a website.
With the smaller footprint, alongside more accessible price points, Feathers has also upped its local manufacturing, with all new products being made in Melbourne. Six months ago, around half the products sold were made in Melbourne.
"This isn't a comeback. We never really left," said Porritt.
“It's Feathers as it was always meant to be. Smaller, more affordable, and 100 per cent made here in Melbourne."
Founded by Margaret Porritt in 1972, Feathers has dressed Melbourne women for more than five decades.
