The Australian Government wants to hear directly from small business owners across Australia about their experiences, challenges and ideas.

To facilitate this, the Commonwealth Minister for Small Business, the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, is establishing a Small Business Consultative Group (SBCG).

The NSW Small Business Commission encourages interested people to consider expressing their interest in the SBCG as a valuable opportunity to inform the Commonwealth’s decisions that affect small business.

The SBCG will serve as a forum for small business owners, advisers and advocates to share grass-roots insights on contemporary issues, opportunities and successes, provide feedback on the impact of existing policies and regulations and help inform future small business policy.

The group will consist of 10 core members, appointed on a voluntary basis for a two-year term. Meetings will be held online twice a year, with the first meeting expected to take place in early 2026.

Small business owners, advisers and advocates interested in participating can apply through the Treasury’s expressions of interest process.

Applications will be used to select the 10 core members, as well as to create a broader pool of participants who may be invited to future meetings. Once selected, the names of core members will be published on the Treasury website.

Expressions of interest close on 16 January 2026.

More information about the Small Business Consultative Group, including application details, is available on the Treasury website at treasury.gov.au/small-business.
