Glue Store, Boohoo.com and TheIconic.com.au are offering women a 17.5 per cent discount this month and next, as part of a gender rights lobby.

The initiative is being spearheaded by Cleo magazine to fight pay gender inequality.

The initiative follows an analysis of 123 companies by Cleo, which revealed women in the same roles as men were being paid up to 25 per cent less, while some companies had failed to promote women to senior roles.

Flexigroup, Macquarie Bank, ACE Insurance, BNP Paribas and J.P. Morgan were some of the companies with discrepancies between male and female pay and positions.

The magazine is aiming to equalise pay within the company and has launched a Change.org petition called 'Ditch the Pay Gap' in a bid to initiate change within such companies.

It currently has 138 signatures. A portion of the text reads: "The gender pay gap is 17.5%. In the finance and insurance industry it’s 33.6%. And it’s getting worse. ABS data shows the pay gap has grown in the past 20 years.

"Companies are not changing. For the first time we’re naming some of the worst offenders and fighting for them to stop the sexism. [...] Get fired up and sign our petition to end the pay gap today."

Local companies supporting the cause include make-up brand Napoleon Perdis and fashion retailers Glue Store, Boohoo.com and The Iconic. The brands will offer women a 17.5 per cent discount off all purchases for differing time periods this month and next.
