This week marked the close of Vivian Chan Shaw: 40 Years: A Retrospective.

The exhibition ran for one week at the Whitehouse Institute of Design, Surry Hills, Sydney.

Incorporating photography, video and ephemera spanning 40 years, the exhibition comprised over 70 milestone works including garments, jewellery and rug design.

The four decades of product were borrowed from clients, the Powerhouse Museum and the Vivian Chaw Shaw archvies.

The iconic designer began her fashion career in the 1960s, before officially launching her eponymous label in 1972.

Her first collections were created in fabric, with the exhibition following her journey to her signature use of hand loomed fine knitwear.

Shaw won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Fashion Group International (Sydney) Awards for Excellence in 2009.

Vivian Chan Shaw: 40 Years: A Retrospective was an official associated event of the City of Sydney Chinese New Year Festival 2013.
