The Textile & Fashion Hub has revealed the program for its first sustainable fashion forum, with a raft of international and local speakers scheduled to attend.
The 'Re.Design. For a sustainable future' event, to be held on June 15 in Richmond, will aim to provide designers and businesses with an introduction to several key elements of designing and producing a more sustainable product or garment.
Topics to be covered during the half day forum include: Trends in sustainable fashion and textiles, designing for minimal waste, sustainable design and materials, and reducing impacts of chemicals and dyes.
Local and international speakers for the forum – including trend forecasting firm WGSN, Kate Fletcher, reader in sustainable fashion from the London College of Fashion, and Peter Johnson from Huntsman Advanced Materials in Switzerland – will draw on their expertise and business experiences to help participants understand the various sustainable design and production elements, and what can be gained from adopting the practices.
Other speakers will include Holly McQuillan, lecturer from Massey University, College of Creative Arts, in New Zealand, MüCKE founder Ellie Mücke, local label Cylk, Sosume designer Alex Trimmer, Natalie Dillon of 3Fish, and Kelly Elkin of ALAS.
The Textile & Fashion Hub is a collaboration between the Australian Government and AusIndustry, Kangan Institute and the TFIA. It is a space for small to medium-sized enterprises to conveniently access resources, knowledge, leading edge equipment, capital and experience from a central hub. The Re.Design Forum is also supported by the International Fibre Centre.
