Australian-born fashion rental platform The Volte has teamed up with eBay Australia to launch a new digital-led campaign called ‘Fit Check to Fat Cheques’.
The campaign promotes The Volte’s fashion rental capabilities, allowing users to monetise their wardrobes at point of purchase.
This comes as the Australian online clothing rental market hit a total value of $47.83 million in 2024, according to research firm Claight Corp. The research firm said the market has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by the convenience it offers, allowing consumers to browse, select, and rent clothing from the comfort of their homes, with the added advantage of door-to-door delivery and returns.
The market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.50 per cent from 2025 to 2034, potentially reaching $142.05 million by 2034, "as there is a growing shift towards more conscious consumerism, making online clothing rental a key element of modern fashion culture in Australia," Claight Corp added.
Since launching in 2018, the rental platform has scaled nationally and recently entered the United Kingdom. The Volte has also expanded access to its resale platform and technology through partnerships with local brands and retailers.
Every item purchased with a brand partner generates a digital ID, allowing customers to rent it out via The Volte or resell it on eBay when they’re ready.
“We’re thrilled to continue to partner with eBay to showcase a truly circular fashion experience,” The Volte co-founder and managing director Kellie Hush said. “This campaign is about celebrating creativity, sustainability, and giving quality fashion a longer, more meaningful life.”
eBay Australia’s head of recommerce Anne-Marie Cheney said the new campaign is about shifting mindsets and educating consumers that the value of an item doesn't end at the point of purchase.
“We want to change behaviour by showing Australians that their wardrobe can be an asset,” Cheney said. “By building awareness around this new way of thinking, we're making it easier than ever to participate in the circular economy through both rental and resale, unlocking the earning potential in the clothes they love.”
Creative direction of the campaign is managed by Universal Favourite with the Fit Checks to Fat Cheques campaign being rolled out across Meta, Google and YouTube.
