eBay has just finalised the acquisition of fashion resale platform Depop, which comes as its Australian traffic scales dramatically year-on-year.
Semrush data shows that Depop’s total Australian traffic in June this year hit 2.29 million, which is up 42.6 per cent compared to June 2025. Depop sits at number 10 of the top fashion brands and retailers in terms of monthly website traffic.
Interestingly, Depop’s June traffic is down by 19 per cent month-on-month, joining a few other fashion players in the top that saw slips between May and June – including Myer (down 8.9 per cent), The Iconic (down 19.51 per cent), Cotton On (down 19.59 per cent) and Uniqlo (down 14.65 per cent).
Those that saw monthly rises were only slightly, including Shein (up 2.82 per cent) and David Jones (up 0.71 per cent), with JD Sports Australia reporting the only strong monthly lift of 16.86 per cent.
Semrush data also shows that the slight majority of Depop’s traffic comes from desktop devices (55.16 per cent), with the rest on mobile (44.84 per cent). Depop is the only fashion brand or retailer in the top 20 that has more desktop users, with the rest having at least 60 per cent mobile users.
On the global level, Depop had 26.74 million visitors in June 2026.
The Australian numbers for Depop come just before the platform decided to cut selling fees in early July.
On its acquisition finalisation, eBay shared that this builds the company’s momentum in fashion, which it considers a more than US$10 billion annual GMV category for the company.
Depop reported annual gross merchandise sales (GMS) of approximately US$1 billion in 2025, including nearly 60 per cent year-over-year growth in the United States. As of December 31, 2025, the marketplace had 7 million active buyers, nearly 90 per cent of whom are under the age of 34, and more than 3 million active sellers.
eBay intends to support Depop's continued growth while preserving the elements that make the marketplace unique to accelerate the future of circular fashion.
"As a global leader in C2C and recommerce, eBay's acquisition of Depop further strengthens our C2C value proposition,” eBay CEO Jamie Iannone said. “This combines two distinct customer experiences and expands our reach with the next generation of buyers and sellers.
"Our goal is to preserve Depop's strong brand, community, and product experience, while helping the team accelerate the roadmap that is already underway and explore synergies with eBay in areas that can supercharge our combined growth potential."
Depop CEO Peter Semple called this an exciting new chapter for the fashion recommerce platform.
"We've built a marketplace centred on creativity, self-expression, and connection, and we're just getting started,” Semple said.
“Depop is a natural fit with eBay, and together we can accelerate our growth while continuing to deliver the unique experience our users value."
